29 May 2024 – Changes to the permitting process
Following a quarterly meeting to strengthen coordination and management of the permitting process for development, the National Environment Service, Te Marae Ora and Infrastructure Cook Islands have agreed to reduce the number of copies of building plans required for the process to get approval to build.
03 May 2024 – ICI to manage Aitutaki water
The water supply system in Aitutaki is experiencing significant issues, including frequent disruptions to access by the residents. On Monday this week, the Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Albert Nicholas and a delegation from Infrastructure Cook Islands (ICI), Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and Ministry of Finance and Economic Management (MFEM) met with the Aitutaki Island Council, Ui Ariki and Members of Parliament to discuss a way forward to improving Aitutaki water management.
March 2024 Road Maintenance: Tauae and Panama road improvements
ICI Civil Team completed road improvements in Tauae and Turtles Sportswear roads within Te-Au- O-Tonga.

January 2024 Valley Road Improvement: Avana valley, Turangi valley and Arai-te-Tonga Completed
ICI Civil Team completed valley road improvements in Avana, Turangi, and Arai-te-Tonga roads in February 2024.
05 December 2023 – Progressing road and traffic management
The Police Commissioner and Secretaries for Transport and Infrastructure signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to formalise standards for the construction and maintenance of roads and to adopt guidelines for the marking of roads, traffic control measures and signs, and for parking.
November 2023 Road line marking and Cat-eye Installations around Rarotonga
Civil Works completed road line marking along the Ara Tapu from Nikao to Avarua in November 2023.
October 2023 Road Line Marking around Rarotonga
Road line marking was carried out on the Ara Tapu in October 2023.
Constitution Avenue Drainage Asset Improvements
In preparation for the Pacific Islands Forum hosted by the Cook Islands in 2023, the roadside drainage along the Constitution Avenue and Victoria Road, surrounding the National Auditorium, was upgraded. This work was contracted to Concrete Systems Ltd.
Avana-Mai’I Roadside Drainage Improvements
Drainage culverts were installed along the Avana-Mai’i Road alongside the road improvement works in the same stretch. The works were completed in 2023 and were sub-contracted to Landholdings Ltd and Civil Contractors Ltd.
September 2023 Road maintenance improvement along Victoria Road in Tupapa
Link and Ara Metua road improvements were carried out on Victoria road in Tupapa in September 2023.
September 2023 Civil Works to perform Road edge line marking from Tupapa to Matavera
Civil Works completed road edge line marking on the stretch of road starting form the Internal Affairs Building in Tupapa, extending towards Matavera.
07 February 2023 – Towards a Life Cycle Approach for Managing Waste
ICI is working towards making sorting and correct separation of waste and recyclables part of normal behaviour through incentivising good practices.
Muri-Aroko Road Drainage Asset Improvements
In 2021, culverts along the Muri-Aroko Road were upgraded ahead of road improvement works along the same area. This contract was awarded to Landholdings Ltd.
Nikao Backroad Culvert Replacement
In 2020, 14 culverts were installed along the Nikao Back road. This is to address roadside flooding issues due to lack of drainage systems/deterioration of existing ones along this stretch of road. The contract was awarded to Civil Contractors Ltd.
