THE RAROTONGA WASTE FACILITY

Waste management involves the collection, cleaning, sorting and disposal of various types of waste. Each of these steps are equally important, and are given keen attention by our Waste Management staff.

Unaccepted Items at the Waste Facility

Toxic chemicals, vehicle oil or car batteries as well as e-waste including computers, monitors, phones, fridges and washing machines are NOT accepted at the Waste Facility. The components contained in these products contain very harmful substances such as cadmium and phosphorous (they are poisonous). The Waste Management Facility do not have the facilities to enable the safe disposal of hazardous and toxic waste. And the true contents of the waste is unknown to us. The Waste Management Division is working towards being able to cater for all waste but this process will take time due to limited resources on island.
