29 May 2024 – Changes to the permitting process

Following a quarterly meeting to strengthen coordination and management of the permitting process for development, the National Environment Service, Te Marae Ora and Infrastructure Cook Islands have agreed to reduce the number of copies of building plans required for the process to get approval to build.

03 May 2024 – ICI to manage Aitutaki water

The water supply system in Aitutaki is experiencing significant issues, including frequent disruptions to access by the residents. On Monday this week, the Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Albert Nicholas and a delegation from Infrastructure Cook Islands (ICI), Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and Ministry of Finance and Economic Management (MFEM) met with the Aitutaki Island Council, Ui Ariki and Members of Parliament to discuss a way forward to improving Aitutaki water management. 

14 February 2024 – Proposed changes to building rules

ICI is moving to make changes to building rules to be able to adapt to the changing climate and respond to social changes.

05 December 2023 – Progressing road and traffic management

The Police Commissioner and Secretaries for Transport and Infrastructure signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to formalise standards for the construction and maintenance of roads and to adopt guidelines for the marking of roads, traffic control measures and signs, and for parking.

07 February 2023 – Towards a Life Cycle Approach for Managing Waste

ICI is working towards making sorting and correct separation of waste and recyclables part of normal behaviour through incentivising good practices.
