We need everyone to abide by good waste management practices.

Sorting at the source is one of the best ways to efficiently manage waste. Ensure your waste and recyclables are clean before placing in the bin. And ensure they are in the correct bin – plastics PET 1 and 2, glass, aluminium cans and tin food cans and mixed general waste.

Avoid putting food scraps in any bin as these attract vermin, creates a stink and increases methane and leachate production at the landfill. Dirty recyclables reduce the value of recyclables and risk the whole shipment being sent back to us.

To avoid confusion and help people know which bin to put different recyclables and waste in, ICI have adopted the following colours for bins:

General = red

Plastic = orange

Glass = ocean blue

Aluminium + tin food cans = light grey

These are adopted from the standardised New Zealand system. We appreciate if everyone can follow the same colour code.

See our schematic below for your collection day and what to put out and what not to put out for collection and the bin colours.
