The Civil Works Division carries out maintenance work and is a key responder during severe weather. This work is funded through the Rarotonga Asset Management administered funds. 

Civil Works division aims to create and maintain a reliable road network that promotes safe and efficient transportation across Rarotonga. This infrastructure not only supports everyday mobility but also contributes to the economic and social well-being of the community by facilitating commerce, tourism, and overall connectivity.

The Civil Works Division has four roles:

Road Network Maintenance

Civil Works focus on maintenance of chipseal roads. Each year parts of the chipseal road network are identified for upgrade. Repainting of road marking, and pot-holing is a regular task to try to keep the roads in a fair condition for safe and comfortable travel.

Roadside Drainage Maintenance 

Civil Works carries out maintenance on the public drain networks, clearing build up of eroded soils and rocks to ensure flood water can move during heavy rainfall.

Emergency Response Work

The Division is a key arm of disaster/emergency response on Rarotonga, acting to respond in times of severe weather events. The objective is to safeguard road users and ensure that essential transportation corridors remain functional.

Asset Management

The division houses mechanics who service the Ministries equipment and machinery.
