Under Section 33 of the Infrastructure Act, any person planning to undertake work that will affect the condition of a road, its use, or access to a road must request permission from ICI.
The kind of work that this covers is connecting accessways (driveways) to public roads, installing underground facilities outside the pavement area, and things like installing business signs within the road corridor.
It is very important that we know when any part of the road corridor is going to be excavated because when trenches are not backfilled according to the required standard, it will affect the longevity of the road, even if the trench is to the side of the road corridor where there is no pavement. In any case, it is best to contact ICI to check on whether you need permission or not.
Fill the online form out here, call 20321 or email infrastructure@cookislands.gov.ck to obtain a form and/or find out what permission you need.
Infrastructure managers will likely know whether their work will affect the movement of traffic. If you are aware, fill out and attach a Traffic Management Plan application form with your Corridor Access Request application.
